Get to work in 2 days or face action: Chavan to teachers
CM Prithviraj Chavan has asked striking college teachers to resume duties within two days or face action under the Essential Services Act, which may include termination from the job.
CM Prithviraj Chavan has asked striking college teachers to resume duties within two days or face action under the Essential Services Act, which may include termination from the job.
Chavan said that the government will not accept the demand that teachers without state or national eligibility (NET/SET) and PhD be given perks at par with those having the required qualification. “Why should any teacher without qualification get on par with better skilled teachers? This will lead to discrimination,” he said.
Almost 45,000 teachers have boycotted exam work since February 4, demanding, among other things, the release of the sixth pay panel arrears, which the government had agreed to pay in a phased manner by the end of May.
According to Chavan, there are 28,00 teachers without higher qualification. “I’m giving all striking teachers a last chance. They return to colleges within two days or else face strict action.”
