Contrary to the reports suggesting that a 15-year-old – found on the railway tracks near Vashi Creek bridge on Tuesday evening – was pushed out of the train by her brother and brother-in-law, her family claims that the fall was accidental.

According to them, Pooja Radheyshaym Rathod had fled from her house and the incident occurred while she was being brought home. Pooja is presently recuperating at Sion hospital.

Pooja had been living with her sister in Sanpada.

“The girl’s brother told us that following an argument at home, Pooja fled from her sister’s house on Tuesday. The brother and brother-in-law found her at Kurla railway station,” said BD Bhujbal, senior police inspector, Vashi railway station. “They beat her up at the station for running away and then again in the train as well. Later, they asked her to throw away her old pair of footwear that she was wearing. While doing so, she lost her balance and fell off the train.”

The duo said their attempt to get off at Vashi railway station to look for Pooja was thwarted by the commuters who assaulted them.

Railway police said they will reach a conclusion after speaking to the girl.No arrests have been made in the case.
