With growing opportunities for newer innovations, it is not surprising to see many college kids taking to small-scale businesses and entrepreneurships these days. In a unique initiative, five students from HR College decided to encourage their contemporaries by organising an exhibition that will showcase start-ups and businesses, especially those which have been spearheaded by young women like themselves. The event will be held today, September 7, at Ave 29, Grant Road.
Called I Am Not Just A Pretty Face, the initiative aims to support women who have taken tremendous risks to establish themselves. “We have given them a platform to show their work at a popular venue. The stalls feature various products ranging from organic elephant dung paper to gourmet flavoured popcorn. In addition, there will also be entrepreneurs selling Indian and western clothes, jewellery, and a range of specialised homeopathic cosmetics and home decor products,” says Tanupriya Mundhra, who is organising the event along with her friends Malvika Agarwal, Simran Wadhwani, Trishla Kothari and Ashima Sahni.
Those being featured at the exhibition include fashion brands like Pink Lemon, Aditi Goel, Argentum Jewels, Body and Soul; food products like WOW popcorn, Silver Spoon Gourmet, as well as lifestyle stores like Tutterfly and Masala Craft. “We have divided the stall rental amount equally among all the stall owners, thereby lowering the cost for each person individually,” adds Mundhra.
Ask her if their young age has come in the way of others taking their initiative seriously and she says, “With this project, I have got the taste of what it can be like to start something on your own. Being young has never been a hurdle in the way of accomplishing something. Through this initiative, this is the message we want to send across — that if you are serious about your venture, nothing can stop you.”
