Alert citizens saved a six-year-old girl allegedly being kidnapped by two men at Kurla (East) on Sunday. Auto rickshaw drivers at the Kurla bus depot near the railway station saw two suspicious looking men with a minor girl who was crying.

Atul Sawant, a driver said: “The men were in tattered clothes and looked like drug addicts,” said Sawant. When they were asked to stop, one of them fled but the drivers managed to nab him.

The police have detained the man and are tracing his accomplice.

“Since the man is drunk, it is difficult to get answers. We will send him for a DNA test, as he has also become a suspect in the rape and murder cases,” said an officer. The police found the girl, a resident of Alidada Street, had been playing outside her house when she went missing.
