Chairman of the Inter-governmental Panel for Climate Change R.K. Pachauri said he stood by his statements on glacial melting, saying that they were based on facts.
“There are some people who still have their doubts about the seriousness of the issues of climate change. Whatever I have claimed about the glaciers is a fact and I stand by it,” Pachauri said at an eco-housing seminar.
Pachauri said glaciers were melting rapidly in the Himalayas. Pachauri’s The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government for promoting construction of eco-friendly houses, said Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. The TERI is also guiding the state to prepare a plan to tackle the effects of global warming and make sustainable use of natural resources, he added.
