The Kashimira police, on Tuesday, registered a case against eight persons, including three builders, for allegedly abducting a 50-year-old real estate agent, assaulting him, throwing acid into his eyes and hands and then abandoning him at Mira Road on Monday night.

No arrests have been made yet.

According to the police, the victim, Doodnath Verma, a resident of the Gokuldham area in Goregaon (east) received a call on his cell phone at 6 pm on Monday when the caller claimed that he wished to buy a property, concerning which Verma should meet him at Aarey road the same evening.

An unsuspecting Verma went to Aarey road to meet the caller when five men in an Innova car forced him in, tied a blindfold on his eyes, took him to a room and beat him up for several hours. They then thrust acid into his eyes and on his hands and abandoned him at Mira Road on Monday night.

A patrolling police van noticed Verma on Tuesday morning, following which he was admitted to Bhagwati hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

“Verma has alleged that three builders were behind this entire crime and based on his statement, we have registered a case against eight persons, including the builders. Further investigation is in progress,” said Anil Patil, senior inspector of Kashimira police station.
