Jayesh Goswami, 30, who allegedly slit the throat of Sonal Goyani, 35, a mother of two, had been harassing her for the last two months as he wanted her to join his orchestra, the police said.

“Sonal is a singer. Goswami wanted her to join his orchestra. He had been troubling her for the past two months by making repeated phone calls. Goswami was in love with the woman,” said A Jadhav, senior inspector, Malad police station.

Meanwhile, the police said that the investigation has come to a halt as the statements of Goswami and Sonal could not be recorded. “Sonal’s vocal chord has been damaged. Doctors at Evershine hospital in Malad (West), where she is admitted, have advised her against speaking. It has not been possible to record her statement yet,” said an official from Malad police station.

Goswami is in a critical condition and is recuperating at Bhagwati hospital. “Goswami is not out of danger yet. So, we haven’t been able to record his statement,” said the official.

The Malad police have registered an attempt to murder case against Jayesh. According to the police, Jayesh slit his own throat after attacking the woman. While the note, which Jayesh left in the woman’s bedroom, stated that he was in a relationship with her, Goyani’s husband, Hetal has rubbished the claim.

Sonal has been married to Hetal for 15 years and has two sons from the marriage.
