A day after NCP chief Sharad Pawar's nod, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's resignation was accepted by Maharashtra governor K Sankaranarayanan on Saturday.
"Following my meeting with Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and NCP leader Praful Patel on Friday, I took Ajit Pawar's resignation to the governor, who has accepted it," said chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Ajit Pawar had resigned on September 25 following allegations of irregularities in several irrigation projects in the state. The two portfolios held by him have been distributed as well. The charge of finance and planning department has been allotted to Jayant Patil, minister for rural development. The energy department has gone to Rajesh Tope, minister for higher and technical education.
