A 15-year-old girl from a Colaba slum died on Tuesday, a day after setting herself on fire.

Locals said Tahir Kadar Khan, 24, was harassing the girl, Pallavi Dalal, to marry her. Pallavi was previously employed at Khan’s house in October. The Khan family began putting pressure on Pallavi to marry Khan. However, she refused on grounds of being a minor and finally quit the job earlier this month.

But Khan continued harassing her and her family.

Tired of this ordeal, Pallavi set herself on fire in her house. An first information report has been lodged at the Cuffe Parade Police station against Khan, his elder brother Zakir and their mother Gauri.
