HC cancels bail of accused cop

The bail of a police sub inspector (PSI) who is accused of framing a builder in a false narcotics case allegedly at the behest of another builder has been cancelled by the Bombay high court.

Justice JH Bhatia cancelled the bail granted to PSI Rajendra Bhosale who allegedly framed Rajesh Solanki in a case under the Narcotics Substance and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act allegedly at the behest of builder Ravindra Shelatkar.

The court has also cancelled the bail of Shelatkar on applications filed by Solanki.

While cancelling their bail, the court observed that the accused was to get bail only if the prosecution failed to file a charge sheet before the completion of 180 days. In Bhosale’s case, the special court granted him bail after 60 days of arrest.

Also, the court observed that the quantity of contraband was 340 gm, which is more than commercial quantity.

The special court had granted bail to Bhosale, Shelatkar and 10 other police officers accused in the case early this month.

Bhosale and Shelatkar had contended that the quantity of heroin was less than commercial quantity and as the charge sheet was not filed within 60 days after the date of arrest, they be released on bail.
