With a salary of Rs. 60,000, Kedar Barde, 26, found it difficult to shell out Rs. 22,00 as rent per month for his Andheri house. But the software engineer chose to live in the area as it was convenient for his wife Bidushi, the DN Nagar police said.
Kedar, the police said, had come to the city for Bidushi as she wanted to make a career in the television industry.
Police said the couple had met through a social networking website, following which Kedar decided to move to the city as they wanted to get married and settle here.
“Bidushi was an aspiring model. To be with her, Kedar quit his job in Jaipur and came to Mumbai,” said an officer from DN Nagar police station.
After they tied the knot in 2009, the couple went house hunting in the city. Kedar deliberately chose Andheri (West) as the location as most models and actors live in the area, police said.
“He chose to pay Rs22,000 rent per month so that Bidushi did not have to travel much. He could have rented a cheaper place somewhere else, but he chose Andheri as it was convenient for her,” the officer said.
The couple, however, would have several arguments due to the financial crisis as Bidushi had been unemployed for several months.
“He medical expenses were extremely high. Apart from the rent, Kedar also had to pay about Rs8,000 to Rs9,000 per month to run the house and clear bills. Hence the couple lived a restricted lifestyle,” said the officer, adding that Bidushi was suffering from insomnia and would regularly take sleeping pills.
