Heavy rains lashed some parts of the western suburbs and island city for an hour on Sunday afternoon.

Minor mishaps followed as a portion of ceiling of an old Sitaram building, opposite Ramabai Ambedkar police station fell injuring two, Sheikh Fairul (24) and Abdul Ahad(23). Both sustained minor injuries and were treated at the GT Hospital. It rained 30.74mm in Bandra and 24.38mm in Andheri, between 12.30 to 1.30 pm.

While in the island city the average rainfall was 17.36mm, it rained 25.14mm in Dadar and 38.1mm in Worli between11.30 to 12.30 during the day.

There were no cases of water logging or traffic hurls.

Till 9 am in the morning, it rained about 17.6mm in the Bhatsa Lake which supplies nearly 1365 million litres daily out of the 3450 mld supplied to the city everyday.

However, the lake is still nearly 10 metres below the full supply level.

“The season cycle is a little disturbed this time as the rains were delayed. It cannot be predicted if the lake levels will rise up to the full supply by the end of the season,” said Hydraulic Engineer DM Gondalia.
