Taking cognisance of HT’s monsoon audit, conducted a week ago, the BMC dispatched a team of senior officials to tour troublespots with HT’s expert panel and discuss steps to rectify the problems causing flooding and waterlogging.

The HT audit, conducted with a panel of civic governance and environment experts, had found the BMC’s pre-monsoon work incomplete or inadequate at several troublespots and found the city only about 50% ready to tackle the monsoon, against a BMC declaration that the city was 90% rain-ready.

Reacting to the audit report, additional municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta invited HT’s expert panel to help rectify the situation.

“We want to involve the panelists constructively and make use of their expertise to try and improve where we can,” Gupta said. A joint visit was accordingly organised on Friday, with senior BMC officials accompanying the HT audit panelists to some of the troublespots examined earlier.

“Such joint consultations are a good way of assessing and improving performance,” said Nandkumar Salvi, the civic body’s first-ever chief engineer of the stormwater drains department and one of HT’s panelists.
