The Mumbai crime branch has arrested a robber from Powai and recovered arms and ammunitions.
The police said the arrested person was waiting for an associate with whom he had planned a heist when he was picked up.
Officials of Unit 10 of the crime branch arrested Santosh Daulatsingh Rajput, a history-sheeter, Powai on Monday. “We had received information that he was waiting for one of his associate near SM Shetty School and so we had kept a watch on him after he arrived there. After monitoring for some time, we picked him up and searched him,” an officer said on condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to media. He added that that the police recovered one factory made 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with four rounds.
The officer said that Rajput has been booked under Arms Act. “He has cases against him at VP Road, Azad Maidan and Pant Nagar police stations,” the officer said, adding that he also has a case of robbery against him at Ulhasnagar. “He has confessed to his role in a robbery that took place at Mulund in November 2009.”
Rajput, along with his associate, Balchandra Pasi, had brought these arms from Uttar Pradesh.
