mumbai Updated: Apr 24, 2011 17:24 IST

The right leg of Alauddin Imamuddin Haq, who was seriously injured after a car driven by the son of a corporate honcho had hit his bike, has been amputated in order to prevent infection spreading in his body, police said on Monday.

"The 23-year-old Haq's leg has been removed during the operation at the Bombay hospital yesterday by the doctors attending him following gangrene," S S More, sub inspector at Marine Drive police station said.

Last Sunday, police had arrested Ankush Shahra (24), son of Dinesh Shahra, managing director of Ruchi Soya, an edible oil major, in a hit-and-run case.

Shahra, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, was apprehended near Churchgate after a hot chase by police after his Porsche allegedly rammed into a motorcycle driven by Haq at Marine Drive, police said adding that the accused was later released on bail.

The victim works as a delivery boy for a local restaurant named Zaffran.
