Soon, the ticket coupons used at railway stations as substitutes for card tickets will come with the Indian Railway hologram.
The Central Railway (CR) came up with the idea after the authorities found fake coupons in circulation. The new coupon booklets will be available within the next few days.
“It was found that a few commuters were using colour photocopies of the coupons,” said a senior CR official on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media. The ticket checking staff during routine checks at the stations and trains had discovered this scam, he said.
“To end such activities, we will print a hologram on the coupons. This will avoid duplication and misuse of the coupons,” said S Mudgerikar, chief PRO of Central Railway.
The holograms will prevent miscreants from defrauding the railways. “Ticket checkers have come across several passengers who reuse the coupons by tearing the portion which has already been stamped. The hologram, which is placed on the coupon near an arrow, will end these practices,” said Mudgerikar.
