Two days after he suggested that salaries of ministers should be cut to mobilise funds towards drought relief at a state Cabinet meet, home minister RR Patil gave away his salary for one month, Rs 57,000, towards chief minister's relief fund.

"I have decided to give away my one-month salary towards the chief minister's relief fund for drought relief," said Patil, on Friday.

While the Maharashtra Gazetted Officer's Federation have pledged their salary for two days, the gazetted officials from the health department have decided to donate their sa;ary for one day towards the cause.

During a discussion on the drought-relief proposal of Rs 2,500 crore pending with the Centre on Wednesday, Patil had said that the government was holding up funds unnecessarily.

Patil had suggested said that chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar should forgo their salary for two months towards the relief fund. He had said that ministers and bureaucrats should donate their one month's salary for the cause.

Patil had said that the government should use all possible resources to fill the gap of Rs 1,000 crore, which can revive the situation in the 15 adversely hit districts.

CM Chavan had snubbed him saying that the state has enough funds and will get funds from the Centre too.
