The police have lost a crucial piece of evidence that could have strengthened the case against stock analyst Gautam Vora for helping murder accused Vijay Palande.
The CCTV footage from the Colaba hotel, where the duo had spent over two hours after Palande’s escape from the police on April 10, has been deleted.
“The hotel deleted the recording as it was a week old,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime. The police would now rely on eyewitness accounts and Vora’s signature in the hotel register.
Vora and Palande were regulars at the hotel and the waiters identified them immediately during questioning. Also, Vora had paid the hotel bill through his credit card, which was another crucial evidence against him in the case, the police said.
In the light of recent developments that connect Vora to small-time model Simran Sood, the Khar police have started to scan email and networking site accounts of late model Viveka Babajee, who killed herself in 2010.
