Twenty days after seven-year-old Aditya Dube fell to his death from the rooftop restaurant of Hotel Ramee Guestline at Juhu, the police arrested one of the four directors of the hotel for negligence.

Ashok Shetty was produced in court on Thursday and released on bail, police said.

The police are conducting further inquiries into the case to find out if any action is to be taken against Santosh Shetty, the managing director of the hotel.

Aditya Dube, a class 3 student of Janaki Devi School, who had gone to the hotel with his parents for dinner on July 3, fell to death from the sixth floor of the hotel when the acrylic sheet placed covering a gap in the ceiling gave way.

The Juhu police had registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the hotel authorities. Aditya was rushed to Aarogyanidhi Hospital at Andheri where he died while undergoing treatment.

"After taking statements of the hotel staff and senior hotel employees we found that the main accused, who had renovated and constructed formations in the hotel without any legal permission, was Ashok. That is why we arrested him,"Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) K.M.M. Prasanna said.

The police said Santosh was running the rooftop restaurant, It’s Mirchi, which the municipal corporation demolished on July 7, illegally.

The police said Ashok was responsible for the illegal construction carried out without proper planning. The police are also probing to find out if other people were responsible for the negligence that caused Aditya's death.
