In two suicide incidents on Saturday, a 23-year-old bar girl hanged herself in Versova due to unknown reasons, while a 27-year-old woman set herself ablaze in Powai after a verbal tiff with her husband for serving him tea late. The police have registered a case of accidental death in both cases and further investigations are under way.
At 10.45am on Saturday, Sonam Sisodiya, 23, was found hanging from the ceiling at her apartment in Four Bungalows, Andheri (West), by her cousin.
The police added that the deceased worked as a waitress at a restaurant cum bar in Dadar. An officer of the Versova police station said, “We have found a suicide note written in Hindi from the spot which stated that nobody is responsible for her death.” The police have found no other injury marks on her body.
In the second case reported from Powai, Andheri (East), a 27-year-old homemaker set herself on fire at her residence on Saturday afternoon. According to the Powai police, Madhuri Dhuri, 27, a resident of a slum pocket near Karuna Nagar pipeline, had a fight with her husband Rakesh, a driver, over a domestic dispute.
Sub inspector S Londhe of Powai police said, “Rakesh shouted at Madhuri for not serving tea on time that led to a fight between the couple. After Rakesh left their house in the morning, Madhari poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire.”
