After the arrest of two officials from a Malad school for leaking the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) question paper for book-keeping and accountancy, students and teachers are divided over whether a re-exam should be conducted for the subject.
Around half-an-hour before the exam on March 9, the photographs of three pages of the question paper went viral on a messaging application, WhatsApp. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) authorities are yet to take a call on the re-test.
Students feel asking them to take the exam again would be unfair. “The questions were easy and studying again will seem like a burden,” said Omkar Ghotkar, a student of Vamanrao College, Mulund. “I don’t want to spoil my vacation,” said Pranali Kharat from RA Podar College, Matunga.
Some students, however, are in favour of a re-exam. “The authorities should either hold a re-exam or give equal marks to all,” said Bhavya Doshi, student of Mithibai Collage, Vile Parle.
“We will ask the education inspector of the western zone to suspend the school officials caught in the paper leak,” said Siddheshwar Chandekar, divisional secretary, state board.
