The Kharghar police have arrested Prashant Vahal, the husband of Samidha, 38, who allegedly committed suicide last week after reportedly killing her two daughters, Tanvi, 8, and Geet, a year and a half. Samidha had stated in her suicide note that she had taken the step as she was being neglected by her husband. The police have also booked Prashant’s family.

The incident had occurred at Adhiraj Gardens in sector 5 of Kharghar on April 19. It came to light a day later, when neighbours complained of a foul smell.

Prashant was away at Chennai for work. Samidha Vahal and Prashant had been married for 17 years. Prashant, who worked for Bristol Tyre in Chennai, is from Kanpur; Samidha was from Delhi.

Prashant would come to Kharghar on holidays. Samidha, who had done a dietician’ course earlier, took tuitions. Prashant told Samidha he had been transferred from Chennai. After Prashant left for Chennai on April 19, she sent a mobile message saying, “I am going. Bye.”

Assistant police inspector Anil Patil said: “The arrest was made on Sunday on the basis of the suicide note left behind by Samidha. Prashant, his father Naresh and sister Kavita have been charged with abetment of suicide.” Added Patil, “She had stated in her suicide note that he did not give her enough time and blamed him.”
