To condemn the attacks on India Against Corruption (IAC) and Team Anna members, IAC-Mumbai volunteers organised a protest rally from Vile Parle railway station (West) to Juhu on Wednesday evening.
IAC leader Arvind Kejriwal was attacked by a youth on Tuesday with a slipper, on the latter's way to attend a programme in Lucknow as part of their anti-graft campaign.
This is nearly a week after the assault on another Team Anna member and advocate Prashant Bhushan in his Supreme Court chambers by members of a right-wing group.
The protesters carried placards stating 'Chapal kya lathi goli khayenge, Jan Lokpal bill Layenge'; 'Anna aur Arvind ka apaman, sare desh ka apaman' and many such slogans.
"This protest rally is to condemn the attacks on Anna team and we demand an inquiry to find out who were the people behind the incident and its subsequent reactions," said Mayank Gandhi, IAC-Mumbai co-ordinator.
Around 250 volunteers participated in the rally. "Corrupt people don't want the Jan Lokpal Bill and therefore they are trying to bring down Team Anna's morals by making such attacks. However, by participating in this rally we want to show that such violent acts will not discourage us. Rather, we will protest with more zeal," said Tejaswini Vyas, 46, chemical technologist and Ghatkopar resident.
