Suspended senior police inspector of the Anti-Terrorism Squad Arun Khanvilkar was granted bail by the special Anti-Corruption Bureau court on Wednesday, reports HT Correspondent.
Suspended senior police inspector of the Anti-Terrorism Squad Arun Khanvilkar was granted bail by the special Anti-Corruption Bureau court on Wednesday. Khanvilkar and his two aides Chetan Desai and Sanjay Khakhar were arrested on February 5 for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a club owner.
The ACB sought their further custody saying investigations have revealed the involvement of a man identified as Amit. “Complainant Manoj Singh told his domestic help to pay the first instalment of the Rs 5 lakh to a man, identified as Amit, who later gave the money to Desai,” said public prosecutor Jai Singh Desai.
The prosecutor told the court that they wanted to ascertain the identity of this Amit.
The defence argued that custodial interrogation of the accused was not necessary as their voice samples have already been taken. The court sent the trio to judicial custody and later granted them bail.
