A computer engineer with HCL at Ghaziabad was arrested by the Malad police officials on Friday for allegedly sending abusive messages to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party workers Neela Desai and Manish Dhuri, amongst others.

Manish Dhuri contested the assembly elections on an MNS ticket from the Versova constituency whereas Neela Desai contested from Malad (West).

Adarsh Ashok Sinha (34), who was arrested from Ghaziabad, had earlier been arrested in August 2008 for posting defamatory literature about Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on the social networking site Orkut.

Maruti Rathod, senior police inspector, said that several people in the area had complained about receiving abusive messages. “We found that Sinha was sending these messages after which our police team arrested him from Ghaziabad. We have not been able to find out any specific motive, apart from the fact that he enjoyed doing this,” said Rathod.

When questioned if he was sent for medical tests to ascertain if he was mentally stable, Rathod said, “He is mentally stable and works as an engineer. He seems to be a whimsical person who sends these messages based on his on whims and fancies,” Rathod added.

Dhuri said, “One of the messages posted by Sinha on my e-mail id and SMS: “If you come in the way of the North Indian’s I will break your muscles. You will not even know where we dump you. You have seen how your chief Raj Thackeray was put behind bars.”

The police added that Sinha had been sending abusive messages to random addresses in Kolkata and Chennai along with other addresses in Mumbai. The accused has been sent to police custody till December 3.
