A 35-year-old IT professional was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch on Friday for robbing a senior citizen by serving him juice laced with sedatives while he was alone at home.

The crime branch arrested the accused from Hiranandani Estate in Thane. The police said that the woman is an MBA graduate and works as a SAP consultant with an IT firm.

According to a complaint registered by Ninan Thomas at D N Nagar police station on January 26, the accused, Neetu Bhushan Mathkar alias Neetu Kakkar alias Reema Malhotra had visited his house at Juhu-Versova Link road on pretext of being a marketing agent.

The victim alleged that when he went into the kitchen, the accused laced his soft drink with sedatives.

He claims to have lost consciousness after consuming the spiked drink. Meanwhile, the accused woman robbed him of jewellery worth Rs4.10 lakh and Rs30,000 in cash.

Police said that Neetu adopted a unique modus operandi. “She would move around in posh areas and make calls from her mobile phone.

She would insist on knowing details about people present in the house and would target houses where victims could be found alone in the house,” said an officer from the crime branch, on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
