Jab Tak Hain Jaan was Aditya Chopra's gift to his father, said Yash Chopra at his 80th birthday celebrations on September 27 at Yash Raj Studios. Titled In Conversation With Yash Chopra, the event was hosted by Chopra's favourite leading men, Shah Rukh Khan, who stars in movie.
News of his return as a director spread like wildfire in the industry mid last year. While Yash Chopra only revealed his star cast, he chose to keep mum about the title of the film until recently. Though, he tentatively titled the film, 'A Yash Chopra Romance.' It was recently that the name, Jab Tak Hai Jaan was announced, and the public was thrilled at listening to poetic verses in the film, which were penned down by Chopra himself. When Chopra announced his retirement, he said, "Bahut ho gaya abhi. My heart says bahut ho gaya abhi. I will not direct any other film after Jab Tak Hain Jaan."
He said the film gave him creative satisfaction. He said, "This film has turned out better than my expectations. I don't want to do anything else." He added, "After Veer Zaara, I wanted to make something different, a soul-touching film. That is when I told Aditya, my son that I want to direct a film. This film is a gift to me from Aditya. He told me, 'make the film dad and I am there to provide all help'."
The film, once again a classic romantic saga, stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. On choosing Shah Rukh Chopra had said, "I have always had great experience working with him. He is the one actor who has never asked me what the story is about, how much money he will charge..."
