A circular issued by the office of the deputy commissioner of police (operations), KG Patil, imposes these restrictions under section 33 of the Bombay Police Act, 1951.
These restrictions mean that one can only burst crackers in society compounds, on terraces of bungalows and in open grounds, said a police official.
The police have banned bursting firecrackers from 10pm to 6am in the city. While bursting all firecrackers on roads and footpaths has been banned, you can’t fire rockets from high-rises.
Atom bombs have been termed illegal. The circular states that no one can make, sell or display firecrackers known as atom bombs, which are likely be louder than 125 decibels even four meters from where they are burst. Also, ladis (chain crackers), which may exceed noise levels of 105 decibels have been banned.
