The cost of a night’s stay in a four star hotel in Bangkok, local cab fare and a meal comprising a pizza and a drink could be cheaper than a similar experience in Goa, according to a survey conducted by a portal.
TripAdvisor.in, a travel planning website, conducted a survey to prepare a TripIndex comparing the cost of stay and food in 11 cities in India and 50 foreign destinations frequented by Indians.
The survey found Jaipur to be the most value-for-money destination in India with travellers availing a day’s stay, transport and a meal in less than Rs 4000. A visitor would spend nearly double the amount for a similar experience in Mumbai which the survey found to be the most expensive domestic destination on the price index. For a foreign holiday Bangkok was the most reasonable with average spend per night just over Rs 5000 while Paris was the most expensive at Rs. 19,553 per night.
“Value-for-money is an important consideration for Indian travellers while planning a holiday.
TripIndex is a great measure to assess the hit on your wallet for some of the most visited cities in India and the world, and will certainly help travellers plan trips based on realistic estimates,” said Nikhil Ganju, country manager TripAdvisor (India).
While the domestic price index was created on the basis of average rates at three star hotels, the company chose four-star properties for foreign destinations.
