The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a search operation on Wednesday at the residences of Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi and his Sooraj in connection with the mysterious death of actor Jiah Khan, who was found hanging at her residence in 2013.

A CBI spokesperson said the two teams that raided the residences of Pancholi and his son in Mumbai recovered "incriminating documents".

"We have seized certain incriminating documents and articles during the searches and these would be scrutinised by CBI teams that are investigating the case," the spokesperson said.

Two teams of the CBI's special crime branch began their search on Wednesday evening and it continued for several hours. Officials of the Delhi CBI units were in Mumbai for the operation.

The spokesperson added the searches were a part of the ongoing investigations conducted by the agency.

The Bombay high court, on plea by Jiah's mother Rabia, had directed the CBI to probe whether the death was suicide or homicide .

Though the division bench had not found any fault with the investigation carried out by Juhu police, a Bombay HC bench of Justice VM Kanade and Justice PD Kode thought it was necessary to engage the CBI for further investigation to probe the aspects left out, if any, by the local police. The judges were of the opinion that the Juhu police had not investigated the angle of possible murder properly.

"The possibility of someone entering from the window (and escaping without getting noticed after killing the 25-year-old actress) ought to have been investigated properly," they had said.

Jiah Khan, a 25-year-old British-American actress, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Juhu on June 3, 2013. Her relationship with newbie actor Sooraj Pancholi was said to be under strain and it was suspected that it drove her to end her life.

The Juhu police had booked Sooraj on charge of abetting the suicide and now a chargesheet has also been filed against him.
