Dilip Mandal, 19, the house help who murdered and robbed 50-year-old Minoti Parikh in Juhu on Monday, was arrested from Delhi on Wednesday. His brother Shyam who used to work in the next building as a house help, was arrested from Haryana.
One of the two teams of the Juhu police led by assistant police inspector Nandkishore Jadhav, who were on the lookout for the accused, along with Mumbai crime branch assistant inspector Deepak Sawant arrested Dilip. The second team led by sub-inspector Shriniwas Chewale, arrested Shyam.
The brothers were arrested after a team of experts under police inspector Milind Desai launched electronic surveillance to catch the accused. Police officers have recovered the entire stolen stash worth Rs34 lakh from Shyam.
The police believe that both brothers were involved in the murder as it would have been difficult for one person to tie Parikh’s hand and legs and then strangulate her.
The accused had later dumped her body in the bathroom and fled with the cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs34 lakh.
The police will produce both the accused before respective local courts on Thursday and will get them under transit remand to Mumbai for further investigations.
Parikh was alone at home when the incident occurred between 11.30am and 1pm. Her husband Ajay, who runs a chemical manufacturing unit, son and daughter-in-law, were at work, the police said.
Parikh was found murdered in the bathroom, with her hands and legs tied up, the police said. They were alerted by the family around 5pm.
