Putting an end to the recent spate of chain snatching incidents in south Mumbai, Shehzad Suleman Parmar, 31-year-old class 10 dropout from Kalbadevi was arrested by the police.
Around eight chain snatchings were observed in the jurisdiction of Dongri, LT Marg, Pydhonie and DB Marg police stations on December 19 between 6am-9am. Around two weeks ago, a beat marshal followed a biker speeding near Kalbadevi. Though the biker gave police the slip, the policeman did manage to partially note down the registration number. “This registration number led us to 12 bikes whose owners were traced, one of whom was Parmar with four cases of chain snatching against him,” said Anil Kumbhare, deputy commissioner of police (zone 2).
Parmar had escaped to Ahmedabad from where he was arrested on December 22.
“He confessed to having carried out eight chain snatchings. We have recovered gold chains weighing 130 gm and worth Rs 39,800 from him,” said Kumbhare.
