A 26-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Kalyan (East) on Monday after being bludgeoned to death with an LPG cylinder. Her neighbours are currently being treated as suspects.
The Kolshewadi police have identified the deceased as Mosami Das, a resident of the Katemanavli area. She was a mother to a six-year-old boy while her husband, Rakesh Das, works at jewellery shop in the area. The son and father were at school and work respectively at the time of the incident.
According to the police, Mosami’s 13-year-old nephew discovered the body on visiting the house around noon on Monday. “He found the deceased in a pool of blood and informed the neighbours, family members and the police,” said a senior officer at the Kolshewadi police station.
On reaching the spot, the police discovered that the house was spattered with blood and found an LPG cylinder covered with blood stains.
Police are currently investigating whether the deceased’s neighbours had any role to play in the incident, though no motive has been established thus far.
"We have found similar blood stains in a neighbouring room of the chawl, where 4-5 young bachelors were living,” the officer said. “Marks on their bathroom floor indicate that blood-stained clothes were washed there. All the men are untraceable since the incident," said a senior official from Kolshewadi police station.
A murder case has been registered in this regard.
