The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau, on Friday, arrested police inspector CS Mali of the Bazarpeth police station, Kalyan on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000.
Vilas Jagdale, deputy superintendent of police, anti-corruption bureau, Thane said, that the victim Raju Soma filed a complaint against Mali, alleging that the officer had demanded Rs1 lakh from him. Soma complained that Mali threatened to put him behind bars, if he failed to pay up. “After verifying Soma's case as genuine, we laid a trap near the Bazarpeth police station and caught CS Mali red-handed, accepting a bribe of Rs60,000,” Jagdale said.
Another victim, Habib Yusuf Saudagur, alleged that Mali was in cahoots with a local builder. He alleged that Mali started fabricating cases against innocent citizens, to extort money from them. Saudagur claimed that a few days ago, Mali barged into Soma's house threatened to put him behind bars if he did not pay Rs1 lakh.
After negotiation, Mali agreed to settle for Rs 60,000, Saudagur alleged. That is when Soma and other victims decided to report the matter to the anti-corruption bureau and get Mali arrested, he added.
