A 17-year-old youth went missing on Tuesday after he left his Kandivli residence saying he has to meet someone. Dhaval Trivedi, a Class 12 student of Sathe College in Vile Parle, celebrated his birthday a day before he went missing.

Trivedi stays with his family at Modi Nagar in Kandivli West, said the police. His parents were at a relative’s house in Ahmedabad since a week, while Dhaval and his younger sister were staying at Kandivli with their paternal grandparents.

The police said Trivedi celebrated his birthday on Monday. On Tuesday morning, he told his grandfather he was going to Vile Parle to meet someone and would return soon. His sister was at her tuitions while his grandmother was busy with some chores.

When Trivedi did not return till late, his grandparents tried to call him on his mobile phone and realised he had left it behind. They then contacted his parents who returned immediately. After waiting for 24 hours for Trivedi’s return, they approached the Kandivli police.

“We have registered a missing person’s complaint. He locked his mobile phone, which we are trying to unlock and ascertain whom he spoke to before leaving his house. We are trying to find out whether he had a girlfriend,” said Hareshwar Pimple, senior inspector of Kandivli police station. He added that the family has so far not received any ransom call.
