It was a touching sight at the railway court on Thursday when three-year-old Sangita was reunited with her family after more than a month.
On June 10, Sangita was kidnapped by a man, later identified as Raju Kallu Gaur, when she was sleeping with her parents on a platform at CST. Gaur, 25, who was spotted on CCTV footage taking her away, was traced to Uttarakhand’s Haridwar town on June 7 and brought to Mumbai along with the child.
The police was asked to bring the child and parents to the court by magistrate Nikhil Mehta. The child, who looked scared and confused, smiled when she saw her parents. Her parents, who had come from their hometown Parbhani, immediately hugged her and did not leave her side throughout the court proceedings.
“The family is very poor. As they belong to a rural area, they had no documentary proof. We had to contact the local police station for details and verify their background,” a police officer told the court.
“We are relieved to get our daughter back. We missed her a lot,” said her mother Pushpabai.
Meanwhile, the court has remanded Gaur in police custody till July 18.
