The Badlapur police have busted a racket where the accused used to procure WLL connections from BSNL with forged documents and use the connection to make international calls. The police have arrested Rishidas Shukla, Rafiq Kureshi and Rajkumar Pathak, 35. Nadeem Kureshi, 38, is, however, absconding .

PI Vijay Bagal of Badlapur police station said, “We received a complaint from Sunil Manjhi from BSNL who said that Shukla had procured a WLL (wireless local loop) connection by submitting fake documents and had made international calls worth Rs 42 lakh. BSNL realised Shukla had submitted fake details when bills sent to the address were returned to sender.

Bagal said the police first traced and arrested Shukla two weeks ago via his old mobile number, which he had truthfully written in his application.

During investigations, the police found that three other people were the main accused who used to procure WLL connections with forge documents and give them to call centres.

The police also suspect that an insider from the BSNL could be involved in the racket. Bagal said it is surprising that the person got a WLL connection easily, without his address proof being verified. “We are also investigating that angle,” Bagal said.
