Almost a week after the broad daylight robbery at Kumbharwada area of south Mumbai, the JJ Marg police on Tuesday arrested a suspect, who had earlier been arrested by the crime branch in connection with a similar robbery case. The JJ Marg police believes that Zaki alias Raaz Nazir Khan had teamed up with the two wanted accused in the case whose sketches have been released.
The police picked up Zaki from Do Tanki area in south Mumbai for his suspected role in the October 18 robbery, in which three persons robbed a cushion businessman from Sindhudurg and after firing a round, escaped with his bag containing Rs 40,000. However, despite releasing the sketches of two of the three suspects on the basis of witness and victim's account, the police are yet to get a lead about them.
Khan, Inspector Deepak Patil said, assists his father in his manufacturing unit in Do Tanki area. “We are interrogating Khan and suspect that he is hiding details about the incident. We are also trying to get details of his accomplices,” Patil said. The police are also questioning robbers on police record who adopt similar modus operandi to find out if they were involved in the robbery.
On October 18, three unidentified persons targeted 44-year-old Pundalik Sawant, when he was on his way to a shop in to Gol Temple area in Null Bazar. Sawant, a businessman from Sindhudurg had come to Mumbai for some work when his bag was snatched.
Sanjay Mayekar, 44, sustained a minor bullet injury, after one of the accused pulled out a country-made firearm and fired a round when Mayekar tried to catch hold of one of the robbers.
