A psycho-killer wanted in the rape and murder of three minor girls in Kurla suburb of north-east Mumbai was arrested on Thursday, police said.
"We arrested 19-year-old Javed Shaikh and presented him in the Vikhroli Court. He has been remanded to police custody for 14 days," said zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant.
According to the DNA reports, traces of Javed's blood were reportedly found on the nails of a victim, Nusrat Shaikh.
Police had released the sketch of the suspect, based on eyewitness accounts.
As many as 27 police teams comprising the local police, officers from neighbouring areas and crime branch personnel had been deputed to nab the killer.
On February 9, te body of a missing five-year-old girl was found in a gunny bag in a building in Nehru Nagar.
On March 7, a nine-year-old girl was found raped and murdered on the terrace of the police quarters opposite Nehru Nagar.
In the latest incident, Nusrat Shaikh, who went missing while playing near her house was found dead in a chawl at Vatsala Tai Nagar June 19.
