Two additional lines between Kurla-Thane will be completed by December-end said the Central Railway (CR).
Once the new fifth and sixth lines are ready, all long distance trains starting from Kurla LTT will ply on these two lines, thus improving the speed, number of services and punctuality of suburban trains beyond Kurla.
The general manager of CR, Kul Bhushan promised to open the two lines between Kurla-Thane by the month end.
The CR authorities will begin linking the missing patch between Bhandup and Vikhroli on December 6.
The officials were facing trouble fixing this patch because of a small yard between Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar that required remodeling.
“It is a difficult stretch and the yard has finally been remodeled in the last two years,” said a senior CR official on condition of anonymity.
The CR will also close down the level crossing at Vikhroli starting from December 6 to December 20.
An appeal has also been printed in newspapers about the closure.
During this period, vehicular movement will be stopped completely. Only a few days back, the level crossing, where many trespassers have been killed was the reason behind train services halting for two hours.
The Thane-Vikhroli stretch opened on October 15, and is presently being used by goods trains starting from Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and from Vikhroli, they run on the fast corridor.
