A day after an inspector and a constable from the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station were suspended for allegedly molesting a probationer woman police sub-inspector (WSI), an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has come under the scanner for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman from the area, for the past eight months.
In the latest incident, a middle-aged housewife from Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Kurla (W) has made rape allegations against the ACP.
Following the complaint, the top brass of the Mumbai police have ordered an internal inquiry by deputy commissioner of police, protection and security, HK Varaich.
He said, “I began the inquiry on Tuesday after getting the complaint. I have to record the statements of the complainant as well as question the ACP, before compiling the report.”
The report would be submitted to the joint commissioner of police, law and order.
Sources said the woman has alleged that the ACP, who is presently posted in a side branch, had visited her residence (in Vinoba Bhave Nagar) almost eight months ago.
Her husband was not at home at the time. The ACP allegedly offered her sweets and she fell unconscious after consuming it.
When she regained consciousness, the ACP allegedly showed her an MMS on his cell phone, in which she was in a compromising position.
She alleged that the ACP kept blackmailing her, threatening to make the MMS public and repeatedly raped her.
Unable to cope with the torture she finally approached the higher ups in the department last week, sources said.
Though the petrified woman refused to make a written complaint, apprehending threat to her life, the inquiry was immediately ordered as part of the recent decree by the Mumbai police administration to curb instances of indiscipline and moral turpitude by policemen, sources said.
Last year, a PSI from the same police station, Manoj Londe, had been arrested on charges of raping a woman from the area by promising to marry her.
