A 45-year-old woman, who the police said was a moneylender, was found dead at her Kurla home on Tuesday.
The police got an anonymous call, saying Parveen Chaudhari (45), was strangled by an unidentified person. “She was with a burqa (veil),” said Senior Police Inspector S.R. Dhanedhar.
A few cigarette butts and an alcohol bottle were found in the house, indicating the woman had visitors on Tuesday night.
The police have learnt that Chaudhari, who had married and was divorced twice, had worked in Saudi Arabia till 2007.
The police have found a diary with names of those who had availed loans from Chaudhari. “Inability to repay loans could be the motive of the murdeer,” said Dhanedhar. The possibility of one of her former husbands being responsible for the crime is not ruled out.
