A 22-year-old labourer has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor on two occasions after promising her marriage.

On Thursday, when the victim went to Bhagwati Hospital at Borivli for an abortion she met a constable and told him what had happened to her.

On the constable’s advice, the girl lodged a complaint against Sonu Pratap, a neighbour, with the MHB Colony police.

The girl claimed that on May 10, Pratap, on the pretext of having “something important to discuss” took her to a vacant room and tried to get intimate with her.

“When she refused, he promised he would marry her,” said senior police inspector Shrirang Dhumale of the MHB Colony police station.

When the girl still refused his advances and tried to raise an alarm, Pratap allegedly threatened her with dire consequences and raped her.

The girl claimed that he again raped her on May 12. “Later when the victim asked Pratap to marry her, he refused,” added Dhumale.

Pratap has been charged with raping a minor and criminal intimidation.
