Following demand by female commuters, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) has added two new routes on the special ladies bus service.
The first route is from Gaikwad Nagar to Sainath Road in Malad and the second is from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Mantralaya. Four ladies special services will ply on route number 273— from Gaikwad Nagar to Sainath Road (near Malad station) from February 7 onwards while the special buses plying between CST and Mantralaya started from February 3.
“Looking at the public demand, we have decided to introduce the ladies special buses on an experimental basis,” said NA Walawalkar, public relation officer, BEST.
Two services, one at 9.30am and the second at 10.30am will ply from Gaikwad Nagar to Sainath Road while two services would run in the evening at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, from Sainath road to Gaikwad Nagar.
The special ladies buses on the special route number 1—CST to Mantralaya will run two services, at 10am and 10.10am from CST to Mantralaya and two services at 5.35pm and 5.40pm from Mantralaya to CST. The tally of routes on which ladies special service ply will increase from 16 to 36. “We have restricted ourselves to areas where there is public demand because many services have been discontinued due to lack of response,” said a BEST official, requesting anonymity.
