Laila Khan’s father wants the case transferred to CBI
Alleging that Maharashtra Police did not promptly probe the Laila Khan case after the Bollywood starlet's sudden disappearance with her family, her father Nadir Shah Patel on Tuesday moved the Bombay high court seeking transfer of the case from crime branch to CBI.
Mumbai: Nadir Shah Patel, Bollywood starlet Laila Khan’s father, has approached the Bombay high court calling the crime branch investigation into her disappearance shoddy, and demanding that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He also said there was no clarity despite the police claiming they had cracked the case with the recovery of skeletons from the Khan family’s farmhouse at Igatpuri.
Patel has accused the police of negligence for not promptly probing the case, despite him filing a complaint a year ago, after his daughter’s and the family’s sudden disappearance. He said the crime branch and local police had not properly investigated the case for a year.
Last week, the crime branch announced that they had recovered six skeletons believed to be those of Laila, her mother Celina, her three siblings and a relative, at the family farmhouse at Igatpuri, and claimed they had cracked the murder mystery.
Police said the family was allegedly beaten to death by Parvez Tak, Laila’s stepfather and her mother’s third husband. Tak is a small-time contractor from Jammu & Kashmir.
The incident regarding the brutal murders came to light following Tak’s arrest by J&K police in connection with a cheating case and his subsequent questioning.
Patel said he had approached the Oshiwara police last year to file a missing person complaint, yet till the arrest of Tak, no probe had been initiated. It was only when the J&K police provided details to the crime branch after Tak’s alleged confession that a probe was initiated, Patel’s petition states.
While seeking a CBI probe, Patel also sought action against senior inspectors of Oshiwara and Igatpuri police stations for failing to discharge their duties. The petition will come up for hearing in due course.
Khan and five members of her family went missing from their Igatpuri farmhouse in February 2011. Patel had filed a missing person complaint with the Oshiwara police in December 2011 and in June 2012
Tak was arrested by the J&K police, which brought to light the murders of Khan and her family.
