While the police have not yet been able to find those who broke into BB Jewellery at Pant Nagar a fortnight ago, they claim to have solved at least 23 cases while looking for the robbers.
“We have been able to solve a number of chain-snatching, robbery, theft and house break-in cases. We had increased patrolling after the robbery and were able to nab these accused,” said Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police (zone 7).
The police have arrested more than 30 people in various cases in the past two weeks. “The Bhandup police have solved four cases, Pant Nagar and Navghar police five cases each and the Parksite police have cracked six cases. Two cases each were solved by the Mulund and Vikhroli police, while Ghatkopar and Kanjurmarg police have caught an accused each,” said a police officer.
On March 10, three men broke into BB Jewellers. While they were fleeing with jewellery worth Rs 8lakh, Ram Ravan, the security guard of the building, tried to stop them. They attacked him with an iron rod. When a constable, who was on patrol duty, tried to stop them, one of them shot at him while another attacked him with the rod. Ravan and the constable were treated at Rajawadi hospital.
