Political bosses in the urban development department have directed the dministration to take strict action against the three officials who were arrested three days ago by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in a graft case.
Minister of state for urban development Uday Samant said on Monday that he had directed the secretary of the department to take legal action against those arrested.
“Strict action would be taken against not just the employees arrested, but also other officers involved in graft cases will face the music. We are appealing to people to come forward with complaints, if any, against officers in the department.”
The minister also said that the complaints about bribes demanded by officers arrested in the past would be taken seriously, if complaints are registered.
The ACB on Saturday arrested deputy secretary Anand Jiwane, desk officer Udaysinh Chavan and clerk Subhash More, who had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a suspended deputy commissioner of the Pune municipal corporation Laxman Damase.
Investigations revealed Jiwane was in possession of Rs 78.42 lakh in cash, savings worth Rs21 lakh in banks, Rs 8 lakh in mutual funds and flats in various parts of the state. Jiwane has been suspended.
“Imprisonment of more than 48 hours results in deemed suspension by default. Once the investigation is done, the ACB will approach the government for sanction for his prosecution. This could take a while as sanction for open inquiries in many cases is awaited from the government,” an official from the general administration department said.
He said that Jiwane was originally from his department, which will simultaneously conduct an inquiry against him.
