A 27-year-old history sheeter was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified men in Malegaon in Nashik district, police said on Saturday.

The police have detained four persons in connection with the case.

The incident took place on Friday night in Mushavarat square when the deceased, Altaf Baig alias Altaf Taklya, was standing near a furniture shop, additional SP Sunil Kadasane said.

Two men on a motorcycle shot at Altaf using a revolver and fled away from the spot. He was rushed to civil hospital where he was declared dead, the officer said.

Cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, and house breaking were registered against Altaf, he added.

Following a complaint by Altaf's brother, a case under section 302 (murder) has been registered at City Police Station in this connection.
