The crime branch has formed two special teams to track down police sub- inspector Munir Sheikh. Sheikh has been absconding for over a fortnight after he was booked for abetting the suicide of a domestic help who he had kept in illegal confinement.

Additional commissioner of police (crime) Deven Bharati told HT that the work of the team is being supervised by assistant commissioner of police (ACP), North, Jayawant Hargude. The teams have already fanned out the likely hideouts Sheikh and working on the leads to go on his trail. “He will be rounded up soon,” Bharati added.

Crime branch sources said the special teams have conducted searches at places in Mulund, Govandi and Nashik where Sheikh’s relatives live. Moreover, his residence in Kalyan has already been scanned and kept under surveillance.

He had earlier been booked (arrested) for keeping the maid in illegal confinement. However, he had been bailed out for that charge.

The Malwani police which had initially claimed that Sheikh was absconding after he was booked for abetting in the suicide, later claimed that he was much available and they were waiting for a direction from the court to arrest him. Last week, the crime branch last week took over the mantle to trace a desperado Sheikh.
