Train services on the Harbour line will be severely affected for five days starting January 21 due to work on the line between Sea Woods and Belapur station.
The Central Railway has planned a major block in a phased manner.
During this period, the CR will carry out the remodeling of the rail yard and begin work on shifting crossovers mainly used by trains to go from one track to another.
The work will take place on platform numbers 2 and 3, which will not be available for train services.
Services starting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) station will terminate at Mankhurd and Vashi, while few of them would skip Belapur and go up to Panvel station. Similarly suburban local trains going towards CST will not start from Belapur.
“Work on this block will help us in running trains without disruptions. Presently trains leaving from Panvel have to wait until the train starting from Belapur leaves, as both share the same crossover,” said acting chief PRO, S M Razi.
Work on the block will also result in cancellation of 8 up and down local trains, apart from affecting the Panvel-Andheri route.
During this period, the CR plans to run special locals up to Nerul at a gap of 15 minutes. Harbour line passengers will also be permitted to travel via the Thane-Vashi/ Nerul route during the period when work on the block is being carried out.
